The powder room is one of my favorite rooms in the house It's a jewel box of a room - with beautiful features and finishes. That's one of the fun things about a powder room. It's a small space (and you don't spend a lot of time there!), so you can be a bit dramatic! What are the highlights?
- The espresso wood vanity has a gleaming, solid glass top. And to play it up a bit, I added these bubble glass knobs. Sconces flank the oval mirror, providing lots of light in addition to the window.
- The back wall is covered in old nautical charts (and yes, it provides interesting reading material, LOL! I know a lot more about Monhegan Island now). Above the dual flush toilet is a Pottery Barn glass shelf, providing space for collectibles.
- My favorite feature - the marble floor, which is made of three different types of marble, all ovals. It was a splurge, but worth every penny. It makes such a statement!
And just for the record, here's the 'before' photo. There's not much of the original space left. We tore out the ceiling, closet and cabinets, because it didn't start out as a bathroom. It's a bit of an improvement :-) don't you think?
Normally, I would have a heart attack thinking that parquet floors were ripped out, but the end is so beautiful....
ReplyDeleteMollie - it was vinyl parquet that had been there for at least 30 years. Believe me, you wouldn't have she'd a single tear to see it torn out!!!
DeleteWhew...
DeleteWow. I love all of your choices. Your vanity is one that I considered but wasn't sure that I could make it "classic". Boy was I wrong. Do you decorate or do you hire someone to stage?
ReplyDeleteI love this vanity - it has just the right mix of contemporary vibe on a traditional design. I do all the interior design, it's my favorite part of the process!!
DeleteLove love the marble flooring ... I plan to redo our bathrooms next spring so please tell me where your found the flooring. thk
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy! It's from a company called SoHo Studios and it's the Motion Ovals. They make it in a couple of different color ways, so I'm sure you can find one that matches your decor!
DeleteThank you. Are yours grey? So far all I've found is amber.
DeleteWhat color wave is your tile? I thought it was grey but now not so sure. thk
DeleteOur floor is Carerra (gray and white) and Lagos (grayish brown) and a very white marble. They are all mixed randomly. When I looked on their website I didn't see it, but our local tile store had all of the color choices.
DeleteFabulous on all accounts!!! The map wallpaper is just the icing:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sherry!!!
