It's Almost Like Being There - Virtual Open House!

We didn't have time to do a 'before' open house for this project.  So I was trying to figure out the best way for people to see it.  I published the usual 'before' photos, but they really aren't the same as being there in person.  And I know for folks that aren't local, they'd like to get a better view of the house.

And then I started talking to one of our followers, Mitch from Locksley Consulting and he has this really cool camera that does a 360 degree scan - that really makes it feel like you're in the house.  It creates an interactive video, that lets you literally walk through the house.  And when we finish the place, he can do a side-by-side Before & After!  Won't that be fun to watch?

He came out and showed me how it works and it is really cool!  The camera has 9 different lenses in it, so it films multiple angles at once.
This camera films 9 different things at once!

He sets it up in each room and it spins around to film the entire space (while we hide in another room!).

And look at how great the photos look from the camera!  This is the front wall of the living room.
It builds the house floorplan, as it links each camera revolution.  This will allow the viewer to walk through the room and look in any direction they want.

Ultimately, it creates two things - the 3D walk through and a 'Dollhouse' view, which lets you see the entire floor plan (I loved this part!).

And if you have Virtual Reality glasses, it lets you spin and turn to see the entire space, as if you're in the room.  This was my first experiment with Virtual Reality glasses and I couldn't believe how REAL it felt.  Amazing!

So, check it out by clicking on this link. 3D Walk Through  If you use your cursor, you can move forward to each dot and then just use your mouse to move right or left.  It's pretty easy, once you get the hang of it.  It lets you see lots of detail.

So give it a try.  And I'd love to hear what you think!  Do you see potential in the Cozy Cottage?

  3. Wow. Very neat way to "see" the house! Looking forward to seeing what you'll do with it! Will you still have only one bathroom?

    1. As you probably noticed, there isn't room to add another bathroom upstairs. But I'm thinking about doing something in the basement. Stay tuned as I figure all this out :-)

  4. Lots of potential! I'd open up the living room and kitchen to make a big open space. That's what we have and its really nice and feels roomier than if the walls were there!

  5. A lot of listings in my area use this feature. I like how the dollhouse view really captures the flow through the house (or if a particular listing is hiding some rooms!) - and catching a glimpse of the camera in mirrors can be fun.

Looking forward to what you're going to do with the basement! Are there foundation issues or is it all about the drainage?

  7. Okay, so I must be coming around to ranch style because I think it's super cute (although DOES need a lot of work - which will be a piece of cake for you!). I, too, would say take down the wall between living room and kitchen. I love all of the windows and light in the living room and all of the beautiful green you see out of them (the mature trees are a huge bonus). I think some lovely french doors off the kitchen into backyard would be nice too.
I'm thinking it looks like the perfect place for a girl to run off to and escape her family every once in a while! Ha ha :) (Only kind of kidding!)
Love the virtual thing - very helpful and really cool!

  10. Enjoyed the "open house". I am anxious to see how you deal with all the empty (wasted) kitchen space due to baseboard heating . We have a similar issue with a very "careful" budget.

    1. Our plumber is doing the calculations for the volume of space, but I'm hopeful we can remove at least one section of baseboard, to provide more cabinet space. This house was designed before people installed insulation, so there's a good chance we can lose a little baseboard, without any issues, now that we'll have lots of modern insulation. Worst case, we will need to keep it all, and then we could install a kickspace blower - but they're noisy and my least favorite kind of year.
